A quiet reading.
"Be happy. Keep your faith and belief. Remember the little things you have heard and seen me do, and do them."
This quote from St. David of Wales was brought up today in a teaching module. The phrase "little things" immediately caught my attention and stirred something within me.
A ministry of small things is a phrase I have become increasingly attached to through sharing these writings.
Small things have always mattered.
Words from an earlier writing, “What Was in the Room?,” came back to me after a child’s aunt entered the room holding her phone.
“The game was more than a game. It was shared attention, shared laughter, shared presence.
Presence had been in the room.
The phone took her away from it.”
It is in the little things that we find our place in the world.
Perhaps faithfulness is mostly learned in small things.
The teaching module ended with these words:
Practice paying attention to the little things.
Doorways to allowing the Holy Spirit to school us in attending to sacred Presence in all times and at all places:
SLOW DOWN. Notice what you see, hear, smell, taste, touch.
START WITH GRATEFULNESS.
ALLOW WONDER TO GROW.
NURTURE DELIGHT.
